The Garda National Youth Awards

The National Garda Awards celebrates outstanding young people between the ages of 13 & 21 years, recognizing their good work and achievements in the community, who make their communities better and safer places to live and honors those who make outstanding contributions. The awards first take place at Regional level with the winners then being nominated for a National award.

Over the past number of years HYLS have nominated several young people that have been involved with our service.

In 2022 we had 2 young people receive Regional Awards and a group of young people received a combined Regional Award for sharing their life stories in a published book “My Own Jungle”. All young people were put forward by HYLS staff members.

One of the young people, Amy Keogh went on to receive a National Special Achievement Award. It was recognized through this award that Amy experienced set-backs early in her life, that she rose above due to her determination and strength. Amy continues to support and care for her siblings, while also working part time and attending college.

The event took place at Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise, on Saturday 12th November 2022. The awards were handed out to celebrate the contributions of young people, both individually and as part of groups.
