Healthy Vs Unhealthy Relationship Programme

Sligo Leitrim Home Youth Liaison Service continue to deliver our Healthy vs unhealthy relationship programme, which was specifically designed and tailored by our team to address issues and challenges that young people encounter.

Over the last number of years and as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic there has been a significant increase in reports of Domestic Violence which also include Coercive Control. Research has indicated that a barrier for young people and families in reporting abuse and looking for help is that domestic abuse and abusive relationships can become normalised, and some young people do not recognise when it is happening.

To address this issue and to help children and young people in Sligo and Leitrim to be better able to recognise Healthy Vs Unhealthy Relationships and in turn take action against abusive situations, children and young people need to be educated to identify domestic abuse, coercive control, bullying, addiction and cultural awareness.

The programme has been delivered to every incoming first year student in all the secondary schools in Sligo and Leitrim.

We continue to develop and monitor the impact of the programme through the use of a survey monkey. This has highlighted the success of the programme and directed its continuous development, where we have identified new modules that have been added in relation to rising trends in society and culture.

The programme consists of 6 sessions, and we welcome feed back and comments for the participants throughout.
